Legacy Rising: A Hopeful History

Around March of 2015 there was a rift in the Jedi Order Clan Family; a system of clans that principally focused upon war and fair play. A series of questions about one of the clans potentially using the infamous X-mod cheating application for Clash of Clans caused all of the 7 or so Jedi clans to begin serious discussion on how to address such issues in the future. The negotiations themselves were fairly inconsequential and no serious actions were taken, save a mandate that cheating be discouraged within the Jedi Order Family of clans. However, during this time of intense contact between the leadership of all of the Jedi Order Clans, the leader to Jedi Legacy noticed a lack of communication developing between all of the senior family leaders (clan leaders and a few influential co-leaders). It seemed two of the original Jedi clans held all of the power and listen very little to the rest of the satellite clans. After a series of discussions, the senior leadership of Jedi Legacy agreed to form a 100% fair play clan based around open communication, friendship and family values. This led to 8 leaders and a handful of elders returning Jedi Legacy back to senior Jedi leadership, and founding the Legacy Family of Clans.

Originally, two clans were derived from the senior leadership of a clan in the Jedi Order Clan Family called Jedi Legacy: Legacy United, Legacy UN FFC; the first being a full time war clan, the latter was a feeder and farm for the Legacy United. As time went on Legacy United had swelled and was looking to train some of our lower th levels at doing proper war attacking strategy; with this goal in mind Legacy Rising was founded.

Over time the crew over at Legacy Rising started moving away from the philosophy that Legacy United was founded upon. Rising became a clan that would take players with a variety of builds, with a focus on balance, rather than on engineering offense dominant approaches to the game regularly encouraged and practiced by leadership in Legacy United. Rising also became much more tolerant of people who were learning the game, likely as a result of it originally being a training clan, while Legacy United became synonymous with kicking for poor attacks, and donation ratios from lower th. This led to regular disputes by leaders of both clans finally leading to an all out break between the clans. However, during the lead up to the disagreement between the leaders of each clan were regular periods of cooperation where large numbers of Rising personnel would travel to Legacy United to guest and war; this was also followed by United leaders and members in kind. As the game slowed down, around the time of the th11 upgrade, Legacy United began to break with the tradition of sharing troops, and began to attempt a consolidation of the Legacy clan system; basically their leader wished a re-merging of all of the active members. In addition a number of clan merger attempts were done with outside clans as well; each time the new membership leaving after altercations with the primary Legacy United leader. During this time, the United leader began to change his own approach to leadership, requiring less discussion from co-leaders, and almost no consultation of the elders in the clan.

The present catches up to us in this narrative and we find Legacy United a full Engineering clan, in which their leader is autocratic and shares power with only one other leader; having removed, or been abandoned (in one way or another) by 5 of the original 7 that help to found his clan. Most of the original leadership, having disagreed with the Legacy United leader so grievously, have gone so far as to sever personal ties to the clan and its leadership upon their departure. In Legacy Rising most of the active personnel have relocated to Legacy United and have either been removed, or are still there as members rather than their original elder status in Legacy Rising. When finally the current leader of Legacy Rising, its original founder, and a co-founder of Legacy United, fell out of favor in Legacy United (mostly for discussing war base assignments and strategy privately with current leaders) Legacy Rising was re-opened. This was done as an attempt to salvage some of the good intentions the Legacy Family was founded upon.

This history is a good example of how a group of friends can begin this game looking to create an egalitarian platform to clash, war and grow together...only to destroy that very foundation by embracing the very philosophy they ran from originally. Our move away from the Jedi Order of clans seemed one that was done, at the time, as an attempt to create something special; a foundation of co-equal members looking to leave an autocratic form of leadership. Now the flagship clan has become a cautionary tale by embracing those same failing principles.

It is my hope that Legacy Rising will thus travel forward as a fair play, non-engineering clan, that values communication and participation of its leaders and members. Hopefully the clan can ascend as a veritable phoenix from the ashes of a dying system; back to the principles 8 friends founded their clan family upon.
